The Livestock Sector of Tsirang Dzongkhag has initiated a comprehensive livestock farm biosecurity program with financial support from the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) and the BRECSA project. The program aims to strengthen farm-level biosecurity measures and minimize the risk of livestock diseases across the dzongkhag.
Implementation is carried out on a cost-sharing model, where the sector contributes essential construction materials such as chain-link fencing, angle posts, and cement. Beneficiaries, in turn, are required to bear the expenses for sand, gravel, nails, and other critical biosecurity components, including foot/tyre dips and farm signage. This collaborative approach ensures shared responsibility, increased ownership, and sustainability of the initiative.
By improving farm security and preventing disease transmission, the program is expected to significantly reduce disease incidence and enhance livestock health and productivity within the dzongkhag, ultimately contributing to improved livelihoods and strengthened local livestock systems.
