Gosarling

The Gosarling Gewog is located northeast of Tsirang Dzongkhag, approximately 11 kilometres from the Tsirang Dzongkhag Administration (Damphu). The Gewog has an area of 9.9-sq.km and shares a border with Damphu town, Kilkhorthang and Tshoglingkar Gewogs. It has elevations ranging from 700 to 1300 feet above sea level. It is the smallest in size and has about 353 households with a population of 1781. The Gewog comprises five Chiwog: Pelrithang, Dzamlingthang, Dzomlingzor, Pemathang, and Phunsumgang.

The Gewog consists of warm broad leaves and has a warm climate, which is quite hot at lower altitudes in summer. It experiences an average annual rainfall of 1500mm to 3000mm and around 60% of the Gewog is covered by forest. The Gewog has diverse ethnic groups comprising both old native settlers and new resettlement people from different Dzongkhags.

Regarding socio-economic development, the Damphu to Changchey highway road passes through the middle of the Gewog providing motor-able road access to about 60% of the villages. Pemathang-Phuensumgang farm road has been blacktopped providing reliable access for commuters. In addition, all five Chiwogs are connected with the farm road while the Manidra to Harpikhola farm road has been laid by GSB shortening the distance for commuters and all the villages and Chiwogs have access to a reliable mobile network and 100% electricity coverage. The nearby Damphu Hospital provided health services and facilities to the residents of Gewog. However, people also avail services from ORC located at Manidarara under Dzamlingzor Chiwog. Aside from two primary schools offering education from class PP to VI, the Gewog also has one ECCD centre located at Dzamlingthang Chiwog.

The people of Gosarling Gewog mainly depend on agriculture and livestock products. Their main source of income is from orchards, vegetables, and livestock farming. Since farm roads connect all Chiwogs and villages, farmers have easy access to nearby markets for marketing their products. The Gewog, on the other hand, has a great deal of potential to enhance agriculture and livestock production. Farmer shortages, price fluctuations of goods produced by farmers, and unpredicted pests and diseases, water shortage have been the major challenges. Despite these challenges, Gewog Administration and RNR staff are working to find ways to overcome them.
