Sergithang
Sergithang Gewog is one of the remote and furthest amongst twelve Gewogs in Tsirang Dzongkhag. The Gewog Centre is located at 45 kilometers away from Dzongkhag Head Quarter, Damphu. The Gewog comprises with a total area of 136.44 square kilometer which lies at an elevation of 500 – 1800 meters above the sea level. The Gewog is blessed with sandy loamy black soil which is favorable for cultivation of all types of food crops and varieties of vegetables.
The Gewog is divided into five Chiwogs having 350 households with a total population of 3071 (M:1603 F:1468) approximately. The livelihood of the people here in the Gewog depend on agriculture and livestock. Maize and paddy are considered the two main staple crops which are produced in large scale for self-consumption and sale in case of surplus if any. In addition, farmers rear livestock and grow varieties of vegetables as cash crop for income generation.
Sergithang Gewog has one Primary School, two ECCD Centers, one NFE Centre, one Agriculture-Livestock Extension Centre, one Basic Health unit, one Divisional Forest Beat Office and a Community Centre that caters and provides variety of services to the general public. All five Chiwogs under the Gewog are connected with farm roads and people are largely benefitted with transportation of goods and selling their farm and vegetable produces.
The Gewog is covered with both Bhutan Telecom and Tashicell network with 4G/3G coverage which helps in effective communication. Culturally, the Gewog embraces its spiritual heritage with a Hindu mandir located in Tashithang and a Buddhist lhakhang at Sergithangmaed, reflecting its religious diversity and community vitality. Sergithang Gewog is supplied with two integrated Water Supply Schemes at Jhatey and Sergithangtoed which benefits three Chiwogs of Sergithangtoed,
Sergithangmaed and Semdenjong Chiwog.
Another mega Integrated Water Supply scheme is under construction at Tashithang Chiwog with the fund support from ACREWAS which will solve the problem of water shortage for both irrigation and drinking purpose in Tashithang Chiwog.
