Patshaling

Patshaling Gewog is one of the twelve gewogs of Tsirang Dzongkhag, located in the western part of the district approximately 10 kilometers from the Dzongkhag headquarters. Strategically situated near the Wangdue-Sarpang highway, the gewog spans an area of 170.9 square kilometers, making it the largest in the Dzongkhag. Positioned at an altitude of 1,600 meters above sea level, Patshaling Gewog comprises 330 households with a total population of 2,803, including 1,363 males and 1,440 females.

The gewog is divided into five chiwogs: Chuzomsa, Thakhorling, PatshalingMaed, PatshalingToed, and Pangthang chiwog. All chiwogs are connected by farm roads, with a total of 29 roads covering a combined length of 76.02 kilometers. Electricity coverage in the gewog is 100%, while communication services reach 99.9% of the area, although some locations experience weak network signals. Clean drinking water is accessible to 90% of the population. The gewog has a primary school (Patshaling Primary School) providing education from Pre-Primary (PP) to Grade Six, along with a sub-post health unit offering basic healthcare services. Due to the distance between chiwogs, four ECCD centers have been established across the gewog—in Chuzomsa, Thakhorling, Patshaling Maed, and Pangthang chiwog—to ensure access to early learning education.

The main sources of income in Patshaling Gewog are agriculture and livestock farming. The primary crops cultivated include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, chili, cardamom, and various other seasonal vegetables. Livestock farming is largely backyard-based, with cattle rearing being a significant activity for many households. The gewog is also supported by 37 piggery farms, 10 layer poultry farms, 1 native poultry farm, 9 broiler farms, and 1 goat farm. In addition, there is one milk processing unit and one honey collection center located along the highway, contributing to local livelihoods and small-scale agro-enterprises.

Culturally, the gewog is home to one lhakhang and one Hindu mandir, reflecting the spiritual diversity of the community. The Kalikhola river, along with its tributary Khuchi Khola, flows through two chiwogs and serves as a major water source not only for Patshaling but also for neighboring gewogs and the municipality.
