Honourable Opposition Leader, Dasho Pema Chewang, visited Tsirang Dzongkhag and interacted with Dzongkhag officials, Regional Heads, and Gups.
During the interaction, the Opposition Leader highlighted several matters of national and public importance. He spoke about the uniqueness of Bhutanese democracy and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Government and the Opposition in addressing issues in the interest of the people. He also explained the composition of Parliament and the roles and responsibilities of the Opposition.
The Opposition Leader highlighted the need to address existing bottlenecks affecting civil servants, noting that the Opposition has submitted its concerns and is awaiting the outcome. He also shared information on the proposed Rural Life Insurance Scheme of Nu. 150,000, which is expected to be implemented from January 2027. He reaffirmed continued support for the Third Child Policy, including its continuation beyond the current term.
Concerns related to land and property taxation were also discussed, including the proposal to reduce land and property taxes, with further information expected during the upcoming parliamentary session. The Opposition Leader also emphasized the importance of retaining and reflecting on the key messages delivered by His Majesty The King, particularly those shared following National Day.
The interaction also covered issues related to the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), including concerns regarding the possibility of people being taxed more than once.
The interaction provided an opportunity to share information, discuss matters of public concern, and strengthen engagement between the Opposition and civil servants and Local Government representatives.
